MAGGIE STEACY MEMORIAL SUMMER BREAKFAST PROGRAM

In 2003 we identified the need in our community to assist children who rely on school breakfast programs for their daily nutrition during the Summer months. These children often go without what most of us take for granted on a daily basis - breakfast.

Our Maggie Steacy Memorial Summer Breakfast Program was started and in 2009 we were able to ensure 110 children received their daily nutrition, 4 days a week for 7 weeks in July and August. These children would otherwise have gone without the nutrition they so desperately need. To date we have been able to help over 700 children.

To-date we have only been able to operate three locations (2 in Mississauga and 1 in Malton) due to lack of sufficient funds to expand to other much needed locations throughout Mississauga and Brampton.

Our goal for 2010 is to expand our Summer Program to 4 - 6 locations.

A MORNING WITH SANTA

Children and their families are registered with Breakfast With Santa Foundation through The Mississauga Food Bank, shelters, Children's Aid, food banks, organizations in the community dealing with child hunger and poverty, religious leaders, school breakfast programs and community centers after proper screening.

We host four breakfasts during the month of December spread over the weekends prior to Christmas day.

The morning of the breakfasts, families are greeted at the door by elves, reindeer, clowns and fairy tale characters. They are then assisted to their tables colorfully decorated. Coloring books and crayons await the artistic little fingers. Teddy bears and other stuffed animals are the center pieces and Christmas crackers adorn each place setting.
Elves, clowns, reindeer, all the fairy tale characters and volunteers devote their total attention to our guests by helping them with coloring and their breakfast needs.

A nutritious buffet breakfast of hot pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, pure orange juice, milk, fresh fruit, croissants, assorted breads, Danish, cinnamon buns and Christmas cake is served to the tunes of Christmas Carols.

Following the meal the children are entertained with a wonderful puppet show and participate in games and songs. Disney Princesses arrive to the wonder of every little girl and boy until Santa and Mrs. Claus make their grand entrance to the joyful cheers of our guests.
Santa and Mrs. Claus mingle with the children where hugs are the order of the day. Sitting in his very favorite chair Santa devotes his total attention to each child. While sitting on Santa's knee each child receives a present to take home for Christmas morning. The children leave with excitement, smiles, their treasured gift and a memory to last them a lifetime.

Our goal for 2010 is to be able to host 5 or 6 breakfasts in December.
